MLB Vault
San Francisco Giants 6 at Florida Marlins 7, F — Rookie pitcher Dontrelle Willis faced Jerome Williams in this Series-winning game on October 4th. The Giants scored first in the top of the 2nd of a sacrifice fly, but the Marlins came back in the third and fourth innings before the Giants tied it up once again in the sixth. The Marlins took the lead again in the 8th inning when Miguel Cabrera would single home two runs to take the lead. But the Giants came back fighting with a leadoff double and a base hit to make it a one run game. With one out left for the Marlins to win, Ugueth Urbina hit a batter and put J.T. Snow in scoring position. When Snow tried to score on a single to left, Jeff Conine threw to Ivan Rodriguez at the plate, who tagged Snow as he was pushed to the ground. Rodriguez managed to hold on the ball, recording the final out for the Marlins victory. This was the first time in history that a series ended with a potential ting run thrown out at the plate.
