Manning fans two over two scoreless frames

Sánchez made his first career Spring Training appearance, after a visa issue and a false-positive COVID-19 test delayed his campaign. The Marlins’ top prospect worked around a pair of hits and a walk for 1 2/3 scoreless innings. Sánchez utilized three ground balls, including two double plays to get out unscathed.

McClanahan pitched a perfect frame with three punchouts as he showcased his 70-grade fastball. The 23-year-old southpaw has now struck out seven straight batters, dating back to his spring debut on March 3. McClanahan was selected No. 31 overall in the 2018 Draft, and he has just 127 2/3 pro innings under his belt after not seeing game action last summer.

Manning worked around three hits and a walk with two punchouts for a pair of scoreless innings to lower his spring ERA to 1.50. The Tigers’ No. 5 prospect worked his way out of two-on, two-out situations in both frames, going to his fastball both times. Manning threw 17 of his 28 pitches for strikes in the outing. The 2016 first-rounder now has five strikeouts against one walk in six innings this spring.

Kopech worked only that inning, pouring eight of his nine pitches into the strike zone on the way to a 4-4 tie with the Cubs. The appearance was just Kopech’s second of the spring and third since undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2019 and opting out of last season due to the coronavirus pandemic. Gameday »
