Detroit Tigers’ minor leaguers to play games at alternate training site in Toledo

Detroit Free Press

Before the Triple-A season begins in May, the Detroit Tigers will host an extended spring training camp at the alternate training site at Fifth Third Field in Toledo for players not included on the active 26-man roster.

It’s unclear how many players, and which players, will participate.

But the Toledo Mud Hens announced Thursday a seven-game home schedule against other alternate camps, meaning the Tigers won’t be confined to workouts and intrasquad scrimmages against their teammates.

The Tigers open the alternate camp schedule in Toledo at 2:15 p.m. April 8 against the Chicago Cubs. There’s a two-game series against the Cincinnati Reds on April 15-16, followed by a four-game slate against the Pittsburgh Pirates from April 20-23.

Three additional games have not yet been revealed, and it’s unknown if these contests will be in Toledo or at a different ballpark.

Games are open to the public, as well as two workouts on April 17 and April 18. Tickets cost $10 for games and $5 for workouts. They go on sale beginning at 10 a.m. Friday and “very limited seating” is available, according to the Mud Hens. Fans can purchase pods of up to six tickets.

The Triple-A season starts May 4.
