Riley Greene hits home run number five in SeaWolves victory

Toledo Mud Hens vs. Memphis Redbirds (postponed)

They were rained out, and possibly walking, in Memphis on Tuesday. They’ll make Wednesday’s contest a doubleheader instead. Wednesday night they’ll kick off the six-game set with RHP Thomas Parsons (0-1, 4.56 ERA) going for the Redbirds. First pitch is set for 8:10 p.m. EDT.

Erie SeaWolves 7, Akron RubberDucks 2 (box)

The red hot 17-8 SeaWolves jumped on Akron in the first inning and poured it on from there. Ryan Kreidler and Drew Ward singled, and newly promoted third baseman Andre Lipcius lined an RBI, two-out single into right field to score Kreidler. Ward came across on a throwing error on a Josh Lester ground ball, and Erie was up 2-0.

Lester was involved in the scoring in the fourth as well. Lipcius led off the inning with a walk, and Lester cracked a two-run shot, his fourth, to right center field. Riley Greene led off the fifth with a solo shot, his fifth, and a two-run double in the seventh completed the SeaWolves onslaught.

Ricardo Pinto got the start and allowed two earned runs on seven hits over five innings. Max Green and Ethan DeCaster each threw two scoreless innings of relief.

West Michigan Whitecaps 7, Great Lakes Loons 5 (box)

The Whitecaps swamped the Loons with a six-run first inning and held on to win Tuesday.

Wenceel Perez, just up from Lakeland, led off the game with a single, and the heart of the ‘Caps order went to town. Spencer Torkelson, playing third base, doubled home Perez, and then scored on a Daniel Cabrera triple. Dillon Dingler followed with an RBI double, and moved to third on Reynaldo Rivera’s line drive single to left. Eliezer Alfonzo bounced into a double play, but Dingler scored in the process. And they weren’t done. Three straight two-out singles and a double steal that saw Jose King steal home plate made it 6-0.

Starter Beau Brieske was then knocked around in the first, allowing a three run shot, and then another run in the second inning to end his night early. The ‘Caps scratched out another run in the third, and the bullpen finished with four scoreless innings to lock down the win.

Tampa Tarpons 5, Lakeland Flying Tigers 4 (box)

The Tarpons built an early lead, and just when Lakeland tied the game up, they plated a pair of runs against Austin Bergner in the seventh that proved the difference. Joseph Salazar got the start and struggled, allowing a pair of earned runs in four innings of work with five hits and three walks allowed to just two strikeouts.

The Flying Tigers finally got going in the seventh. Sam McMillan led off with a walk, and after Jose De La Cruz struck out in a 3-2 count, Alvaro Gonzalez also drew a walk. Jimmy Kerr then unleased at triple to the wall in center field that scored them both. Andrew Navigato lofted a fly ball to allow Kerr to score and the game was tied at three apiece.

The Tarpons scored off Berner in the bottom of the inning, and Gage Workman’s solo shot, his third of the year, made it a one run game in the top of the eighth. Kody Clemens, back on a rehab assignment, struck out, but Nick Quintana doubled with one out to represent the tying run on second. Sam McMillan struck out, and De La Cruz popped out to end the threat.
