Columbus Clippers 5, Toledo Mud Hens 4 (box)

Relievers Henry Martinez and Drew Carlton couldn’t hold a late lead as the Clippers took the first of six from the Hens on Tuesday in Columbus. The Hens built a slim lead in the first on RBI singles from Grayson Greiner and Kody Clemens. It was another bullpen game, and Wladimir Pinto allowed a solo shot in the bottom of the first, but came back with a pair of clean innings. Another RBI single from Clemens re-opened a two run lead in the third and Renato Nuñez homered in the sixth to make it 4-1 Hens. The Clippers’ Andres Gimenez had the big hit in their comeback, a two-run double in the seventh against Martinez.

Greiner, Clemens, and Yariel Gonzalez had two hit games, while Jacob Robson singled and walked in this one.

Coming Up Next: The Hens and Clippers meet up again Wednesday at 12:05 p.m. ET. No starters are announced yet as the Hens deal with the promotion of Matt Manning and Wily Peralta.

Erie SeaWolves 4, Altoona Curve 3 (box)

The SeaWolves took on a good pitching prospect in the Curve’s Roensy Contreras and came out on top on Wednesday. They needed all nine innings to do it, scoring a pair in the bottom of the ninth to pull this one out on RBI hits from Andre Lipcius and Josh Lester. Lester started the scoring with a solo shot, his seventh home run of the year, in the third inning, and ended the scoring with a walkoff single to score Lipcius.

The big three at the top of the order had a quiet night. Dillon Dingler lashed a hard single to left field for the only hit between he, Spencer Torkelson, and Riley Greene. Greene has been scuffling the past week, and went 0-for-4 with three punchouts in this one. A.J. Ladwig started for Erie and punched out six, allowing just a solo shot in 3 13 innings of work. Billy Lescher and Ruben Garcia each allowed a run in relief, while Brad Bass tossed a pair of scoreless frames.

Coming Up Next: Wednesday night’s contest is set for 7:05 p.m. ET.

Lake County Captains 3, West Michigan Whitecaps 2 (box)

Keider Montero threw a good game for the Whitecaps, but Zack Hess was unable to hold the lead late as the Captains walked this one off with two in the bottom of the ninth. Montero went 5 13 innings, allowing just an unearned run on three hits and two walks, with six strikeouts to his credit.

The ‘Caps got on the board when Trei Cruz reached on an error in the third. Cruz stole second, and then another error allowed Cooper Johnson to reach and Cruz to score the first run of the game. A Bryant Packard double produced their second run when Eric de la Rosa singled to left to score Packard. Austin Bergner came on in relief on Montero in the sixth and with a pair of wild pitches and a throwing error from Wenceel Perez, allowed the Captains their first run on the board.

Lakeland Flying Tigers 2, Fort Myers Mighty Mussels 1 (F/11)(box)

These two clubs went 10 innings of scoreless ball apiece, until the issue was finally decided with a two-run 11th for the Flygers. Carlos Guzman got the start and was solid, spinning 5 13 scoreless innings with four hits and three walks allowed. He struck out five before turning things over to Michael Bienlien who was perfect for 2 23 innings. Nick Davila allowed a run to make things rather hairy in the bottom of the 11th, but held on for the win.

In the 11th, with a man on, Parker Meadows—recently moved down from West Michigan on a rehab assignment—was hit by a pitch. Gage Workman and Nick Quintana drew back-to-back walks to score Andrew Navigato. Jimmy Kerr flew out to left, the sacrifice fly scoring Meadows from third for the eventual game winner.

Workman went 1 for 4 with a walk and a stolen base to lead the way on a night Lakeland mustered just four hits. Jose de la Cruz walked and stole a base. Navigato had a single and a walk, stole one base, and was caught stealing once on the night.
