If you listen to the radio broadcasts, you’ve likely heard this a bazillion times in a commercial for some car company or another, I can’t remember which one. (Datsun? Saturn? Yugo? One of those, I think.) But, I’ll tell ya this, the Tigers’ bats came alive in a good ol’ lopsided win, ready to play indeed. Victor Reyes had four hits. VICTOR REYES. Roll that around in your head for a while. It was that kind of night.
Let’s summarize things, shall we?
Tiger Pitching
Casey Mize started, and his innings are limited these days so that’s why he only went four. But, those were some pretty nice innings: one hit, no walks. Only two strikeouts, but hey, that’s quite alright.
Scoreless innings followed from Joe Jimenez (with three strikeouts), Daniel Norris, Buck Farmer (again, a trio of whiffs), and even Ian Krol, who had four different pitches working, threw two.
Tiger Hitting
Again, Victor Reyes had four hits, all singles. There really weren’t that many extra-base hits, although Akil Baddoo did have a two-run home run.
There were some doubles in there too, with Isaac Paredes getting his first of the year.
Overall, it was a pretty relentless attack. Take the seven-run sixth inning: the first ten batters reached base with a mixture of singles and walks. Everyone just kept the line moving, you know? That seems to be a nice feature of Tiger lineups lately.
The Rangers
Texas starter Kyle Gibson only gave up two runs through four innings (the Baddoo home run), but he gutted through the fifth despite giving up four runs in the frame. He stuck around for the first two batters of the sixth (walking one and giving up a single), and then it fell down the stairs for them, complete with those sound effects you’d hear in old Looney Tunes cartoons.
The Rangers got four hits, and made two errors. To their credit, Joey Gallo did throw out two runners on the bases, including Jeimer Candelario at home. Maybe stop running on him?

The Tigers have placed C Jake Rogers on the 10-day injured list with right arm soreness.

In Conclusion
The Tigers have won four in a row, coming out of the break. Timely hitting, excellent pitching, and solid defense. How about that?
Update
A.J. Hinch said Jake Rogers is expected to miss “a few weeks” with a pronator teres strain, a common injury for catchers. Sounds like the Tigers were relieved it wasn’t something worse.
Isaac Paredes is day-to-day with hip soreness.
