Austin Murr stretches hitting streak to 15 games in Whitecaps win

Toledo Mud Hens 7, Iowa Cubs 5 (box)

The Mud Hens’ offense stormed back late to down the Cubs on Wednesday. Pedro Payano got the start and leaked a few early runs before settling in a bit. The Hens finally got on the board in the sixth on back-to-back doubles from Riley Greene and Isaac Paredes. However, the Cubs came right back to score one more on Payano in the bottom of the inning. Toledo was just getting started though, and roared back with a five-run top of the eighth. The Cubs issued three walks in the inning, and both Aderlin Rodriguez and Juan Centeno came up with two-RBI knocks to take the lead. Riley Greene singled to lead off the top of the ninth and later scored on a Christin Stewart single.

Erie SeaWolves at Altoona Curve (cancelled)

They were rained out in Altoona on Wednesday night. With only parts of two series remaining on the calendar, the game won’t be made up. First pitch on Thursday night is set for 6:00 p.m. EDT.

West Michigan Whitecaps 5, Great Lakes Loons 1 (box)

Jack O’Loughlin threw a pretty good game and Austin Murr continued his hitting streak as the Whitecaps downed the Loons on Wednesday. O’Loughlin tossed five innings of one-run ball with four strikeouts. Christopher Mauloni took over from there with three no-hit innings, striking out five along the way. The Whitecaps’ offense took advantage of a two base error and a walk in the fourth, scoring two runs to go up 2-1 over the Loons. They added two more in the fifth, and then Murr led off the seventh with a double to make it 15 straight games with a hit. He scored the ‘Caps final run on a Parker Meadows ground out, and Angel Reyes closed out the Loons in the ninth.

Lakeland Flying Tigers 2, St. Lucie Mets 1 (box)

A strong outing from RHP Matt Walker carried the Flygers over the Mets on Wednesday. Lakeland got on the board in the first inning as Mike Rothenberg singled off of Mets’ pitcher Robert Gsellman to score Austin Schultz. That one-run lead held up until the seventh when Walker finally allowed a run. However, Schultz singled home Carlos Mendoza in the eighth to quickly re-claim the lead. Gabriel Sequera made it hold up, collecting his ninth save with two perfect innings with four strikeouts.

Coming Up Next: The Flying Tigers send lefty Carlos Pena (1-0, 1.50 ERA) to the bump for a 6:10 p.m. EDT start on Thursday. The Mets have yet to announce.
