Detroit Tigers at Cleveland Guardians postponed due to rain; rescheduled for July 14

CLEVELAND — The Detroit Tigers and Cleveland Guardians postponed Saturday’s game, scheduled for 6:40 p.m., because of predicted inclement weather at Progressive Field.

The grounds crew brought the tarp onto the field around 3 p.m., with rain scheduled to begin around 3:30 p.m. in Cleveland. The rain is expected to continue throughout the afternoon and into the evening.

The second matchup in the three-game series has been rescheduled for July 14 at 7:10 p.m., as both teams had off days. The Tigers will then play three regularly scheduled games against the Guardians, from July 15-18, before the All-Star break.

Detroit plays 18 games in 17 days leading up to the break, then have a doubleheader in Oakland two days after the All-Star Game, followed by a day off and 16 more games in 16 days.

The Tigers (13-26) play next at 1:40 p.m. Sunday, wrapping up the first of three trips to Cleveland. Right-hander Alex Faedo, who was supposed to start Saturday, has been pushed back to Sunday. Right-hander Shane Bieber will start for Cleveland.

The Guardians won 6-1 in Friday’s series opener.
