GAME RECAP (TOLEDO, OH): With the series tied at two apiece, the Mud Hens looked to regain their series lead. The Mud Hens won the first two games against the RailRiders, but had no answers for Scranton in the previous two. Tonight, they would add an asset to their offense, as OF Kerry Carpenter was called up from the Erie Seawolves. RHP Chase Anderson took the mound, hoping to tally his third win of the season, while getting Toledo back in the win column.

As Anderson looked solid through the first two innings, 3B Brendon Davis led off the second with a double to deep center. Next, LF Kerry Carpenter would tally his first RBI as a Hen. In his first at-bat with Toledo, he hit a double to deep center, putting the Mud Hens on the board first. Then, with one out, and Carpenter on second, C Ali Sanchez would hit a single to center, putting him and Carpenter at the corners. Next, with two outs, the Mud Hens would drive in two more runs. 2B Jamie Westbrook would hit a single to right, scoring Carpenter. That RBI puts him at 19 total this season. Finally, CF Akil Baddoo would hit Toledo’s third double of the inning, driving in Sanchez. The Mud Hens would lead 3-0, heading into the third.

The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders would answer back with a homer to lead off the third inning. The score was now 3-1 in favor of Toledo. However, the Toledo bats were still awake in the bottom half of the third. After a leadoff walk, LF Kerry Carpenter would hit his first home run for Toledo in his second at-bat as a Hen. Carpenter was now halfway through the cycle, as the score became 5-1, in favor of Toledo.

In the bottom of the fourth, the RailRiders looked to regroup after their pitching struggles. However, 1B Josh Lester would not allow that. Lester would tally his 11th homer of the season, making it a 6-1 game. Lester now has 40 RBIs on the year.

After Scranton tallied a run in the fifth, the home run parade would continue for Toledo. In the bottom half of the fifth, C Ali Sanchez would hit his first Toledo homer (fifth of the season), hitting a two-run blast to make it an 8-2 game. After five innings, RHP Chase Anderson would finish his start. Anderson went 5 strong innings, striking out four Scranton batters. He only allowed two hits and two runs (both earned).

The RailRiders looked to get their offense going in the seventh, but CF Akil Baddoo would rob a homer, keeping the bats quiet for Scranton. In the bottom of the seventh, LF Kerry Carpenter stole his first base of the season. With that stolen base, Carpenter finished the night, going 2-3, with a walk, a home run, a double, three RBIs, and 2 runs. Carpenter will look to stay hot, as the series ends, tomorrow.

The RailRiders would score a run in the ninth, but that would be all for Scranton. The Mud Hens won tonight’s game, with a score of 8-3. The Mud Hens now lead the series, 3-2. With tonight’s win, the Mud Hens have improved to a 37-32 record, as they continue to keep it close in the International League West division.

“I was a little nervous, but I always remember my faith with Jesus Christ…. I still have a lot to learn, but I am loving every minute of it. “LF Kerry Carpenter said.

“It all starts with pitching. We have a chance to win the series tomorrow, and if we make good pitches, we will win.” Manager, Lloyd McClendon said.
