Game notes: Two of the game’s better left-handers meet near the Bay after a day off. The Tigers took two of three from Arizona Diamondbacks over the weekend while the Giants lost two of three to the Cincinnati Reds.
It’s a rare matchup for these interleague teams, so it’s no surprise Skubal has no experience vs. the Giants (he was in high school when the Tigers and Giants met in the 2012 World Series). Skubal has fallen to earth after a meteoric start, with a 5.86 ERA through five June starts. He’s given up four home runs this month after allowing two through April and May.
Rodon is one of the few lefties who has been better than Skubal, with 101 strikeouts in 80 innings and just 59 hits allowed, leading to one of the best hit-per-nine and strikeout-per-nine ratios in the league. The Giants have some bats, too with Joc Pederson leading the way with 17 home runs.
The teams conlcude the brief series with a 3:45 p.m. start Wednesday.
