Despite not having a hit through six innings, Erie defeated Akron on Saturday, 6-2.

Brant Hurter started for Erie and allowed a pair of early runs. In the first inning, Juan Brito hit a two-run home run to give Akron an instant 2-0 lead.

Ross Carver started for Akron and was outstanding. Through the first six frames, Carver did not allow a hit or a walk and struck out 12 SeaWolves hitters.

The first batter of the seventh inning, Justice Bigbie, reached on a soft infield single. Carver was then lifted for Davis Sharpe, who allowed a two-run, game-tying home run to Jace Jung. Chris Meyers followed later in the frame with a long solo home run to give Erie a 3-2 lead. Later in the inning against Tyler Thornton, the third pitcher of the inning, Luis Santana blasted a three-run home run to extend Erie’s lead to 6-2.

Hurter wound up throwing five good innings. He only allowed those two runs on four hits, walked one, and struck out five.

Austin Bergner (6-0) tossed a perfect sixth to earn the win. Sharpe (7-4) was the losing pitcher. Tyler Mattison and Andrew Magno combined to throw the final three innings. Magno earned his 10th save.

The series concludes on Sunday at 2:05 p.m. as Lael Lockhart faces Doug Nikhazy.
