Chris Meyers started the scoring early against Peter Van Loon. After Justice Bigbie singled, Meyers blasted a two-run homer to make it 2-0 Erie.

Brant Hurter pitched well for Erie. He tossed five scoreless frames, allowing three hits and a walk with six strikeouts.

In the seventh, Erie extended the lead against right-hander Alex Pham. With one out, Jake Holton lined an opposite-field solo home run. Luis Santana followed with his third home run in two nights to make it 4-0. Later in the frame, Mario Feliciano scored Ben Malgeri on a double to make it 5-0.

Bowie began to rally in the eighth inning. With two out and two on against RJ Petit, John Rhodes lined an RBI single to break up the shutout.

In the ninth, Donta’ Williams homered on the first pitch thrown by Andrew Magno to make it 5-2. The next two hitters reached on a walk and a double. Magno struck out Maxwell Costes for a key first out. Max Wagner then scored a run on a groundout. Magno then struck out Jackson Holliday, the potential tying run, to end the game.

Hurter (6-7) secured the win. Van Loon (2-5) was the losing pitcher.

The series continues at 6:05 p.m. on Saturday as Lael Lockhart opposes Trace Bright.
