TOLEDO – The Toledo Mud Hens were defeated by the Louisville Bats 3-7 on Saturday afternoon at Fifth Third Field. This loss halts a five game win-streak for the Mud Hens.

Alex Faedo and Chase Anderson would be the arms doing battle for Toledo and Louisville respectively. Anderson, a former Mud Hen, would be returning to Toledo for the first time since last season.

After a quiet first inning for both sides, the Bats would start the scoring on a Matt McLain solo home run in the second inning to go up 1-0. Andy Ibanez would tied it up at 1-1 with an RBI single after an Andre Lipcius double.

The Bats would score again in the top of the third inning on an Alejo Lopez RBI single, making it 2-1. The Hens would threaten in the third after a walk and stolen base by Parker Meadows, but he would get left stranded.

Both teams would go quietly in the fourth inning, as that would be Faedo’s last inning of the ballgame. Faedo ended his night after pitching 4.0 innings, allowing two runs on three hits (one home run) while walking one and striking out five. Faedo would end up taking the loss.

The Bats tacked on a run in the fifth inning on a RBI double by Steven Leyton, taking the score to 3-1. Anderson would fend off a double by Jonathan Davis to get through the remainder of his outing. Anderson ended up claiming the victory after pitching 5.0 innings, allowing one run on four hits, two walks and four strikeouts.

Kervin Castro pitched the fifth and sixth innings for the Mud Hens, going 2.0 innings, allowing one run on two hits, one walk and one strikeout. Both teams had a quiet sixth inning as Joel Kuhnel pitched 1.0 inning, allowing one hit and striking out one en route to his first hold of the season.

Chuckie Robinson blew it open for the Bats in the seventh inning with a two-run home run, his second of the season, making it 5-1. Robinson tagged new reliever Miguel Del Pozo with the home run. The Mud Hens would score on a John Valente RBI groundout in his first action since returning to Toledo, making it 5-2. Tayron Guerrero would pitch the seventh inning for the Bats, going 1.0 inning, allowing one run on two hits.

Del Pozo would get two outs in the eighth inning before being taken out of the game. Del Pozo and Miguel Diaz would combine for a quiet eighth inning from the Bats. Del Pozo went 1.2 innings on the afternoon, allowing two runs on four hits (one home run) and two strikeouts. Lucas Sims would make an rehab appearance for the Bats in the eighth inning, retiring the Hens quietly, pitching 1.0 inning and allowing just one walk, getting his first hold of the season.

Diaz would come back out for the ninth inning and got tagged with a solo home run by Alex McGarry, his second of the season to make it 6-2. Lopez would then draw a bases loaded walk to bump the score to 7-2. Diaz would finish his out with 1.1 innings pitched, allowing two runs on two hits (one home run) with one walk and three strikeouts. Hunter Strickland would pitch the ninth inning for the Bats. The Hens would load the bases with one out after a double from Ibanez and walks to Brendan Davis and Valente. The Hens would score a run on a sacrifice fly by Meadows, making it 7-3, which was the final score.
