The SeaWolves were down in the ninth inning to the Richmond Flying Squirrels and rallied, taking the series finale 6-5 on Sunday in extra innings.

Both starting pitchers, Wilmer Flores for Erie and Landen Roupp, were strong out of the gate. Roupp worked three scoreless with a walk and six strikeouts in three innings. Flores bounced back after back-to-back tough starts. He hurled four scoreless innings, allowing two hits with no walks and a strikeout in a no-decision effort.

Erie took the lead in the top of the fourth against Richmond reliever Ryan Murphy. Mario Feliciano singled with one out and extended his hitting streak to seven straight games. He moved to second on a Jake Holton hit by pitch and scored on a Diego Rincones opposite-field double for a 1-0 lead.

Richmond tied the game in the fifth against Erie reliever Dario Gardea when Riley Mahan belted a one-out, solo home run.

The SeaWolves regained the lead in the top of the sixth. Wenceel Perez and Feliciano started the frame with back-to-back singles. Perez scored on a double play making it 2-1 Erie.

The lead did not last long as Richmond took the lead in the bottom of the sixth against Erie reliever Jake Higginbotham. Simon Whiteman bunted for a base hit and moved to third on a one-out Luis Matos double. Patrick Bailey singled home both runners for a 3-2 lead.

It was Mahan again in the seventh inning as he turned on a Higginbotham fastball, connecting on his second home run of the game for a two-run Squirrels lead.

Erie tied the game in the top of the eighth against reliever Matt Frisbee. Colt Keith led off the frame and extended his hitting streak to a team-high 11 straight games with a solo home run to right center. It was Keith’s second home run of the series and third of the season. Feliciano doubled with one out and moved to third on a Holton infield single. Feliciano scored on a Rincones sacrifice fly to center.

Richmond went back ahead by a run in the eighth against reliever Layne Henderson. Matos walked with two outs, keeping the inning alive. Bailey singled Matos into scoring position and he came in to score on a Brett Auerbach base hit.

Gage Workman led off the ninth inning with a double, his first hit of the series, of off reliever Randy Rodriguez. Workman scored on a two-out RBI single from Keith to make it a 5-5 game.

Yaya Chentouf hurled a scoreless bottom of the ninth, sending Erie to its fourth extra innings game of the year.

In the top of the 10th, Daniel Cabrera led off and singled home the free runner in Perez for a 6-5 lead.

Chentouf worked the bottom of the 10th and gave up a deep fly ball to Ishmael Munguia, advancing the free runner Whiteman to third. Chentouf then induced a lazy fly out from Matos and he struck out Tyler Fitzgerald, ending the game.

Chentouf (2-1) earned the win hurling two scoreless.

Blake Rivera (0-1) took the loss allowing an unearned run in the top of the 10th.

Erie improved to 4-0 in extra innings games.
