The Toledo Mud Hens squared off against the Indianapolis Indians in a Wednesday doubleheader and took game one 4-3.
Reece Olson started on the mound for the Hens in game one. He entered today’s game with 0-2 record and a 11.20 ERA.
The Indians jumped on the board first in the top of the first inning. After Olson recorded two quick outs he then walked Ryan Vilade. With a runner on first, the next. batter Ryan Palacios tripled to right-center field to score the games first run.
The Hens were held scoreless in the first inning and both teams didn’t plate any runners in the second.
In the top of the third inning, the Indians put runners on the the corners with no one out, Ryan Vilade hit a sacrifice fly that scored Canaan Smith-Njigba for the games second run. Olson would escape the inning after giving up just one run making it a 2-0 Indians lead.
In the bottom of the third inning Corey Joyce hit a two-out triple for the Mud Hens. The next batter Parker Meadows walked to put runners on the corners. Justyn Henry-Malloy hit a sharp line drive to left field that scored two runs to tie the game. Tyler Nevin was the next batter and he got walked putting runners on first and second with two outs. Andre Lipcius then hit a pop fly to right field but a miss communication between the center and right fielder lead to the ball being dropped and two runs scoring giving the Hens a 4-2 lead.
Indianapolis fought back in the top of the fourth inning, earning a run Aaron Shackelford hit a triple with runner on scoring the third run of the game for the Indians, making it a 4-3 Mud Hens lead.
In the bottom of the inning, The Mud Hens loaded up the bases with two outs but Indianapolis was able to escape the jam without giving up a run.
Olson finished his day after pitching a scoreless fifth inning, closing his line at 5.0 IP, 5H, 3R, 3ER, 3BB, 4K.
Matt Wisler entered the game in sixth inning and worked a one-two-three scoreless inning to preserve the the Hens slim one run lead.
The Mud Hens were unable to score in the sixth, but Wisler recorded another one-two-three inning to record the save and victory for the Hens.
Reece Olson was credited with the win, which marks his first win this season on his record.

GAME 2
The Indianapolis Indians held won the night cap of the doubleheader, winning game two 9-0 over the Mud Hens.
Garrett Hill started on the bump for the Anthony Ioposie and the Mud Hens, he entered todays game with 1-0 record and a 3.12 ERA.
Both teams were held off the scoreboard in the first inning but similar to the first game, the Indians scored the first run after runners on the corners and no outs, Grant Koch, hit into a double play that scored the games first run.
Both teams were held quite after the first run was scored and after three innings, the Indians held a one run lead.
Hill’s day finished after pitching three innings and only allowing one run to cross the plate for the Indians. Hill was replaced by Andrew Mango in the fourth inning.
In the fourth inning, the Indians would put runners on first and second with two outs, but hill would get. a ground ball to get out of the inning not allowing a run.
The starter for game two on the mound for the Indians was Caleb Smith. Though Smith’s numbers are the best coming into the game, he dominated the the Mud Hens lineup pitching the first four innings with just one hit.
Unfortunately for the Mud Hens, Andrew Mango would exit the game with an apparent injury before starting the fifth inning. Into the game to replace Hill was Braden Bristo making his first appearance with the Mud Hens. After Bristo recorded two quick outs, Canaan Smith-Nijigba launched a solo home run grow the Indians lead 2-0.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Brendan Davis recorded the Mud Hens second hit of the game with a two-out double to put a runner in scoring position for the Hens, but Smith would record a strikeout to get the final out and keep the hens scoreless after five.
Miguel Del Pozo entered the game the sixth inning and worked a one-two-three inning to keep the Mud Hens within striking range.
In the bottom of the sixth inning Micheal Papierski hit a leadoff single to get things going for the Hens. However Smith recorded three straight outs to strand the runner.
The Indians added some insurance in the seventh inning. A double, walk, then singled scored the first run of the inning. The Del Pozo walked another batter to load the bases with no outs. Another single this time by Vinny Capra scored another run and that marked the end of Miguel Del Pozo’s day.
Replacing Del Pozo in a bases loaded no out situation was Aneurys Zabala. After recording the first out of the inning, Josh Palacios hit a single to left field to score another run in the seventh inning for the Indians. After a few more walks and a single, the Indians capped of the seventh inning scoring seven runs and held a 9-0 lead going to the bottom gram.
Caleb Smith went complete game against the Mud Hens, not allowing a run to cross the plate and securing a 9-0 victory for the Indians.
