Bowie snapped Erie’s two-game winning streak by getting to the SeaWolves’ bullpen in a 12-4 win.

Erie held a 4-3 lead going into the bottom of the sixth inning. The bullpen surrendered nine unanswered runs from there.

The scoring began on Dillon Dingler’s run-scoring single in the first against Bowie starter Justin Armbruester. Trie Cruz notched an RBI double in the second to extend the lead to 2-0.

Bowie grabbed their first lead in the third inning against Erie starter Ty Madden. Heston Kjerstad homered off the left-field foul pole. Coby Mayo followed with a double and Cesar Prieto followed with a lead-flipping two-run homer.

Erie tied it again in the fifth. Colt Keith hit a short fly ball to left field which Kjerstad dropped for a two-base error. The ball wound up in the hands of Armbruester, who tossed the baseball out of play. However, no one had called time to end the play and therefore the ball was still live. Keith was awarded two bases, scoring him from second.

Erie got a lead in the sixth inning. The first two batters reached on walks. Then, Daniel Cabrera hit a groundball which looked like a double play ball. Bowie got the force at second base, but shortstop Gilbert Lara threw away the return throw, allowing a run to score on the error.

That 4-3 Erie lead did not last long. Jake Higginbotham relieved Madden in the sixth. Billy Cook led off with a single and promptly followed when Lara followed with a game-tying double. Higginbotham wound up giving up five hits to the six batters he faced, including a two-run Kjerstad double. Bowie scored five runs and led 8-4.

Austin Bergner also struggled in the seventh. He gave up hits to Cook and Lara, then walked the next two. Dario Gardea entered with the bases loaded and allowed all three inherited runners to score. Bowie had a four-spot in the seventh to lead 12-4.

Connor Gillispie (2-1) allowed one hit and one unearned run in four innings of relief. He got the win for Bowie. Higginbotham (0-1) got the loss for Erie. The series continues Friday at 7:05 p.m.
