Erie kicked off an important homestand against division-leading Richmond with a blowout win, 10-1.

Keider Montero (1-0) earned his first Double-A win. He tied a career-high with eight strikeouts over a season-high five frames. He allowed an unearned run in the second inning thanks to three Erie errors, two committed by Andrew Navigato.

Erie turned things around in the third inning. After Ben Malgeri started the inning with a hit by pitch, Luis Santana doubled him to third base. Navigato tied the game on a ground ball. Keith scored the second run on a sacrifice fly. Wenceel Perez followed with a single. Dillon Dingler clobbered a long, two-run homer to give Erie a 4-1 lead against Richmond starter Nick Zwack.

In the fourth, the first two reached against Zwack ahead of Malgeri. He blasted a three-run homer to extend the lead to 7-1 and knock Zwack out of the game. He (0-1) was the losing pitcher.

Dario Gardea took over for Montero in the sixth and pieced together two scoreless innings, allowing a hit and a walk and striking out two.

The SeaWolves scored three more runs in the seventh inning. Richmond reliever Blake Rivera struggled. He walked his first three batters, including one to Grant Witherspoon which scored an inherited run. Julio Rodriguez and Diego Rincones also had runs batted in.

Austin Bergner threw two scoreless innings to finish the game with four strikeouts.

The series continues with an 11:05 a.m. start time on Wednesday. Ty Madden faces Mason Black.
