The Toledo Mud Hens dropped the first game of this week’s series vs the Rochester Red Wings with a score of 5-3. The Hens fall to 22-23, the first time they’ve been below .500 since April 2nd (1-2).

The Toledo Mud Hens dropped the first game of this week’s series vs the Rochester Red Wings with a score of 5-3. The Hens fall to 22-23, the first time they’ve been below .500 since April 2nd (1-2).

The Hens offense got off to a hot start after Jermaine Palacios blasted his fourth home run of the year in the second inning, scoring Michael Papierski and giving the Hens a 2-0 lead. They would tack on another run in the third inning from a Donny Sands RBI single.

Zach Logue started the game for Toledo and was very sharp. He gave up one run on four hits across five innings, walking none and striking out four. His lone run came in the fourth inning, a solo home run off the bat of Wings left fielder Jake Alu.

Rochester would chip away at Toledo’s lead again in the sixth and seventh innings, tying the game at 3-3. In the sixth inning, Franmil Reyes singled in Jake Alu, and in the seventh inning, Carter Kieboom singled in former Mud Hen Derek Hill.

The Hen’s bats remained quiet into the later innings, and the game headed to extras after score was still tied at 3-3 after the ninth. In the 10th inning, Rochester would score two runs in the top of the inning from a Franklin Barreto single and a Drew Millas triple. The Hens failed to score in their half of the frame, stranding two base runners.

Miguel Diaz pitched the ninth and tenth innings for Toledo, and earned his first loss of the year. Gerson Moreno picked up the win for Rochester.

The two teams will play again tomorrow morning at Fifth Third Field. The first pitch will be at 11:05 A.M.
