Erie cruised its third consecutive win over Richmond, beating them ((9-1)).

The SeaWolves set the tone from the first pitch of the game as Trei Cruz led off with a home run against Richmond starter Nick Zwack.

Erie plated another run in the second on Diego Rincones’ single after Jake Holton walked and Andrew Navigato doubled him to third to begin the inning.

The Howlers broke it open in the third inning. Wenceel Perez walked and advanced to third on Dillon Dingler’s double with one out. Jake Holton followed with a single to score the first run of the inning. Navigato followed with his second double, plating another. Then, with two in scoring position, Rincones hit a sharp line drive to left fielder Brady Whalen, who missed the catch. The error allowed both runs to score and Rincones to advance to third base. Luis Santana later singled Rincones home, giving Erie a five-run inning and a 7-0 lead.

Those early runs came in support of Keider Montero. Montero, in his sixth Double-A start, turned in his best start as a SeaWolf. The right-hander struck out a career-high nine batters over six shutout inning. He allowed two hits and two walks and allowed just one baserunner reach scoring position.

Sean Guenther made his Erie debut in relief of Montero. The left-hander missed the entire 2022 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery. He allowed singles to his first three hitters including an RBI knock by Jimmy Glowenke, his first Double-A hit, to get Richmond on the board. But, he retired the next three in order to avoid any further damage.

Holton drove home two more in the ninth on a two-run single, giving him three RBI in the game and giving Erie a 9-1 lead.

The SeaWolves, who have scored 30 runs in the first three games of the series and have won six of their last seven games, hand the ball to Ty Madden in the fourth game of the series. He’s opposed by Mason Black. First pitch is at 6:35 p.m.
