Despite Colt Keith’s heroics, Erie fell in the ninth inning to Richmond, 6-5.

The SeaWolves scored first in the second against Richmond starter Mason Black. With two out, Julio Rodriguez doubled. Ben Malgeri followed with an RBI single to start the scoring.

In the bottom of the second, Richmond notched three consecutive two-out singles, including an RBI knock by Brett Auerbach, to tie the game at one.

In the fourth, after Andrew Navigato’s two-out single, Rodriguez blasted an opposite-field two-run home run to give Erie a 3-1 lead.

The SeaWolves kept that lead until the fifth inning when Madden found immediate trouble on Carter Williams’ leadoff double. Vaun Brown scored him with a double and advanced to third on a throwing error by Gage Workman. After Marco Luciano walked, Andy Thomas hit a three-run home run to give Richmond a 5-3 lead.

Wil Jensen, who had replaced Black to begin the fifth inning, allowed a two-out single to Trei Cruz in the seventh. Richmond then brought in left-hander Raymond Burgos to face Colt Keith. Keith blasted a long two-run home run, his tenth of the season, to tie the game at five.

Angel De Jesus stranded two aboard in the eighth inning but could not escape the ninth. Brown had a one-out single and advanced to second on a passed ball and third on a wild pitch. Luciano followed with a sacrifice fly to center to score the winning run.

Sawyer Gipson-Long pitches for Erie in fifth game of the series opposed by Kai-Wei Teng. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
