The Toledo Mud Hens lost Friday night against the St. Paul Saints with a score of 10-6. Toledo drops to 32-40 as St. Paul advances to 42-30.

Bryan Sammons got the start today for the Hens and pitched well. In his 5.0 innings of work, he allowed two runs on five hits, with two walks and six strikeouts. He exited in line for the win as the Hens were up 5-2 after the fifth inning, but the Hens bullpen couldn’t hang on to the lead. Beau Brieske gave up two runs in one inning, Blair Calvo gave up four runs in 0.2 innings, and Trey Wingenter gave up another two runs in 0.2 innings.

The Hens jumped out to an early lead after Parker Meadows hit a leadoff triple in the bottom of the first inning, and scored on a Justyn-Henry Malloy sac fly. The next inning, Michael Papierski added to Toledo’s lead with a two-RBI double that scored Johan Camargo and Donny Sands. In the fifth inning, Justyn-Henry Malloy knocked in Michael Papierski with his second RBI sac fly of the game, and Andre Lipcius singled to score Parker Meadows for the Hens fifth run of the game. The final scoring play for the Hens came in the bottom of the sixth inning, when Joe Rizzo doubled off the center field wall to score Donny Sands.

The Hens had a 6-4 lead going into the seventh inning, but gave up four runs in the top of the seventh and two more in the top of the eighth, ultimately losing 10-6.

Parker Meadows went 2-5 with a double, a triple, and two runs scored. The Hens center fielder has been their hottest hitter as of late, and increased his current hitting streak to 13 games tonight. In the month of June, Meadows is slashing .325/.352/.542 with three home runs, a triple, seven doubles, and two stolen bases.

The Mud Hens and Saints are now tied 2-2 in this week’s series and will play the tie breaker tomorrow night at 7:05 right here at Fifth Third Field.
