Meyers Blasts Two Homers as Erie Falls in Extras

Akron scored first against Lael Lockhart in the third inning. The first three runners of the frame had hits including an RBI infield single by Angel Martinez. Korey Holland later had a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0.

Erie was hitless through three innings against Doug Nikhazy. Danny Serretti reached an error to begin the fourth. Chris Meyers blasted his first UPMC Park home run to tie the game at two.

Lockhart turned in a quality start. He went six frames and allowed two runs on six hits, one walk, and five strikeouts.

Layne Henderson surrendered a seventh-inning run on a sacrifice fly by Martinez after Akron loaded the bases.

Erie rebounded to tie the game in the bottom half. After two-out walks to Diego Rincones and Mario Feliciano, Ben Malgeri hit a tying single.

Meyers put Erie in front in the eighth. He launched his second home run of the game, another two-run shot, to give Erie a 5-3 lead.

Austin Bergner came an out away from securing the save in the ninth inning. He surrendered a two-out, two-run blast by Jose Tena to tie the game at five.

Tyler Mattison took over for the tenth and surrendered the free runner. Juan Brito hit an RBI single, the first hit Mattison has allowed in Double-A in his eighth outing.

Erie tied the game at six in the bottom half. The SeaWolves were down to their final out before Jace Jung ran out a tying infield single.

Akron put the game out of reach in the top of the 11th against RJ Petit. With runners on the corners and no outs, Micael Ramirez reached on a throwing error by Trei Cruz as he threw errantly to second on a force attempt. It scored the go-ahead run with Akron leading 7-6. Later in the frame, Martinez blasted a three-run home to make it 10-6.

Julio Rodriguez hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the frame, making it a 10-8 game. The SeaWolves could not complete the comeback.

Petit (2-2) took the loss. Davis Sharpe (6-3) earned the win.

The series between Erie and Akron continues at 6:35 p.m. with Keider Montero pitching against Tommy Mace.
