Harrisburg Takes Series with Late Insurance Runs

The SeaWolves could not complete a comeback bid as Harrisburg won (8-4) on Sunday to win the series.

Brant Hurter started for Erie and surrendered a pair of early runs. The first three batters he faced reached including an RBI single hit by Trey Lipscomb. With one out, Israel Pineda drove home a second run on a sacrifice fly which turned into a double play as Lipscomb wound up doubled off first.

Erie got a run back in the third inning. Trei Cruz notched Erie’s third hit of the frame against Dustin Saenz and scored the SeaWolves’ first run to make it 2-1.

Hurter departed in the fourth with two out and the bases loaded. Jake Higginbotham entered and surrendered a three-run double to Robert Hassell III. It extended Harrisburg’s lead to 5-1.

In the seventh inning, the SeaWolves got a run closer on Mario Feliciano’s sacrifice fly. Chris Meyers blasted a two-run home run in the eighth inning, making it 5-4.

Harrisburg was able to tack on three insurance runs in the ninth. Frankie Tostado lined an RBI double off Tyler Mattison. Against RJ Petit, Donovan Casey reached on an infield single with a pair of runs scoring on Cruz’s throwing error. That made it 8-4.

Saenz (2-4) earned his second win of the series. Hurter (5-7) took the loss. Nash Walters earned his first save.

Erie kicks off a series in Altoona on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. Lael Lockhart pitches against Nick Dombkowski.
