Shortridge Tosses Complete Game to Stall SeaWolves

Aaron Shortridge pitched Altoona past Erie, 3-2, on Friday.

Erie struck early against Shortridge. Justice Bigbie hammered a solo home run in the first inning to give the SeaWolves a 1-0 lead.

Adam Wolf started for Erie and began his day with three scoreless innings. Altoona broke through in the fourth. Matt Gorski walked and stole both second and third base. He scored on Jacob Gonzalez’s sacrifice fly. Altoona loaded the bases with two out in that frame. Claudio Finol drove an RBI single to give the Curve a 2-1 lead.

Altoona held that lead deep into the game as Shortridge settled in. The Curve added a tack-on run in the eighth inning against Jake Higginbotham on Gonzalez’s two-out, RBI single.

Shortridge came back out to pitch the ninth and try for a complete game win. Bigbie opened the inning by reaching on a throwing error by the third baseman Finol. Jace Jung then blistered a line drive into the right-center field gap but was thrown out by Chavez Young advancing to second on the single. It moved Bigbie to third. He then scored on Dillon Dingler’s sacrifice fly, which made it 3-2. Shortridge struck out Corey Joyce to finish the complete game effort.

Shortridge (7-7) earned the win. Wolf (3-3) took the loss.

Erie and Altoona continue the series on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. with Brant Hurter opposing Jackson Wolf.
