TOLEDO— The Toledo Mud Hens defeated the Omaha Storm Chasers 8-2 on Wednesday night at Fifth Third Field.

The pitching matchup consisted ofKeider Monterofor the Mud Hens andWill Kleinfor the Storm Chasers.

Bubba Thompsonbegan the game with a lineout. A single byEdward Olivares, a walk byNick Loftinand a single byDevin Mannwould load the bases for the Storm Chasers with one out. Montero would getJohn Raveto strikeout andTyler Gentryto ground into a force out to end the inning and escape the jam.

Klein would begin his outing with a strikeout ofParker Meadows.Justyn-Henry Malloywould draw a one-out walk to get the Hens on the bases. Malloy would move to second on a groundout byColt Keith.Tyler Nevinwould put the Mud Hens ahead with a two-out RBI double, making it 1-0 Mud Hens. Klein would strikeoutWenceel Perezto end the inning. That would end the night for Klein after 1.0 inning pitched, allowing one run on one hit with one walk and one strikeout.

Montero would begin his second inning of work with a strikeout ofLogan Porter. Back-to-back singles byNate EatonandClay Dunganhad the Chasers right back in business. Montero would strikeout Thompson and get Olivares to lineout to end the inning.

Drew Parrishwould enter the game to pitch for the Storm Chasers in the second inning. Parrish would be greeted with a leadoff home run byAndre Lipcius, making it 2-0 Mud Hens. Parrish would sail smoothly through the rest of the inning, gettingRyan Kreidlerto popout,Donny Sandsto groundout andDillon Dinglerto strikeout to end the inning.

Loftin would club a leadoff home run of his own to begin the third inning against Montero. A walk by Mann and a double by Rave set the Chasers up for a big inning. Montero would pull the rabbit out of the hat again. A Gentry strikeout, a Porter popout and an Eaton strikeout would end the half-inning with the Hens still in front 2-1.

Parrish would retire the Hens in order in the third inning. Strikeouts of Meadows and Malloy with a Keith flyout got Parrish through the inning.

Dungan would hit a leadoff double to put the Chasers back on the bases. Montero would get Thompson to flyout for the first out. Olivares would hit a game-tying RBI single, knotting it at 2-2. Montero would get Loftin to popout and Mann to strikeout to end the inning.

Nevin would club a leadoff home run to put the Mud Hens right back on top at 3-2. Perez would follow with a walk. Lipcius would groundout for the first out. Kreidler would walk, but during the plate appearance, Perez was picked off at second base for the second out. Parrish would get Sands to groundout to end the inning.

Montero would get two quick outs in the fifth inning, getting Rave to flyout and striking out Gentry. Porter and Eaton would hit back-to-back singles, but would be stranded after Dungan grounded out to end the inning. That would end the night for Montero after 5.0 innings pitched, allowing two runs on ten hits (one home run), two walks and seven strikeouts. Montero would tally the win, moving to 1-1 on the season.

Parrish would get two quick outs as well, striking out Dingler and getting Meadows to flyout. Malloy would draw a two-out walk, but was stranded after Keith lined out to end the inning.

Sean Guentherwould enter to pitch for the Mud Hens in the sixth inning. Thompson would draw a leadoff walk. Olivares would popout for the first out. Thompson would steal second base prior to Loftin’s strikeout. Guenther would get Mann to groundout to end the inning.

A single by Nevin and a double by Perez set the Hens up to extend their lead and they did. Lipcius drove in Nevin with a sacrifice fly, and Perez came home to score on a RBI single by Kreidler, making it 5-2 Mud Hens. That would chase Parrish from the game in favor ofJoe Barlow. Barlow would get Sands to flyout for the second out. Dingler would single for his first Triple-A hit, moving Kreidler to second. Meadows would drive home another run with a RBI single, making it 6-2. Malloy drew a walk, but a lineout by Keith would end the inning. Parrish would finish with 4.1 innings, allowing five runs on five hits (two home runs), three walks and four strikeouts. Parrish would be handed the loss, falling to 6-7 on the season.

Mason Englertwould enter the game to pitch the seventh inning for the Mud Hens. Rave would smack a leadoff single, but would be stranded after a strikeout of Gentry, a flyout by Porter and a strikeout of Eaton would end the inning.

Barlow would return for the seventh inning. Tyler Nevin would club his second leadoff solo home run of the game, extending the lead to 7-2 Mud Hens. Barlow would strikeout the next two batters in Perez and Lipcius. Kreidler would draw a two-out walk and would score on a RBI double by Donny Sands, making it 8-2. Dingler would flyout to end the inning. That would end the night for Barlow after pitching 1.2 innings, allowing two runs on four hits (one home run), two walks and two strikeouts.

Englert would return to pitch the eighth inning for the Mud Hens. Dungan would reach on a leadoff single and move to second on an error. Dungan would then move to third on a groundout by Thompson. Olivares popped out for the second out. Loftin would draw a walk, but both runners would be stranded after Englert would strikeout Mann to end the inning. That would end the night for Englert after 2.0 innings pitched, allowing two hits and one walk with three strikeouts.

Christian Chamberlainwould enter to pitch the eighth inning for the Storm Chasers. Meadows would strikeout for the first out of the inning. Malloy would draw a one-out walk, but would be stranded after Keith and Nevin both flied out to end the inning. That would close the book on Chamberlain after 1.0 inning pitched and allowing one walk.

Rony Garciawould enter to pitch the ninth inning for the Mud Hens. Garcia would strikeout Rave for the first out. Gentry would club a double to attempt to start a rally for Omaha. Garcia would get Porter to flyout and Eaton to ground into a fielder’s choice to end the game, sealing an 8-2 Mud Hens win. Garcia finishes with 1.0 inning pitched, allowing one hit and striking out one batter.
