The Toledo Mud Hens dropped game two of this week’s series vs the Louisville Bats. The Hens are now 23-24 in the second half and 56-65 overall.

Keider Montero started for the Hens and pitched 5.0 innings, giving up five runs with no walks and four strikeouts. The bullpen gave up another five runs allowing the Bats to reach double digits in back-to-back games. Sam Clay gave up one run in 1.1 innings, and Aneurys Zabala gave up four in 1.1 innings, earning the loss.

Eddys Leonard got the Hens on the board in the second inning with a three-run home run, which was followed later in the inning by a Wenceel Perez solo homer. Justyn-Henry Malloy would score on an error in the fifth inning to make it a 5-1 game, and after the Bats tied it up at 5-5 in the sixth inning, Tyler Nevin hit a go-ahead solo home run off former Tiger Chasen Shreve in the top of the seventh. Unfortunately, that lead would not hold as the Hens ultimately fell 10-7, their final run scoring after Colt Keith came home on a Nick Maton groundout in the ninth inning.

While the offense was respectable this evening (seven runs on 13 hits), it certainly didn’t match last night’s 24-run mark. Louisville’s Jose Barrero crushed Hens pitching tonight and almost singlehandedly carried them to victory. He batted fifth and finished 3-5 with two home runs, a double, and six RBI.

After splitting the first two games at one apiece, the Bats and Mud Hens will play again tomorrow in Louisville. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:35 P.M.
