Serretti’s Slam Powers Erie to Series Win

Erie brought the bats out to take the series from Altoona in a 13-5 win on Sunday.

The SeaWolves put up six on Aaron Shortridge in the first inning. With two on, Chris Meyers plated the first run of the game on a groundout. After Erie loaded the bases with two out, Daniel Cabrera forced home another run on a catcher’s interference committed by Eli Wilson. Danny Serretti followed with a grand slam to make it 6-0. It was Erie’’s first grand slam of the season on Serretti’s first home.

In the second, Erie posted three more runs. Luis Santana clobbered a two-run home run to make it 8-0. Later in the frame, Jake Holton connected on an RBI double to make it 9-0.

Altoona broke onto the scoreboard in the third against Adam Wolf. With two on and two out, Tsung-Che Cheng crushed a three-run homer to make it 9-3.

Erie got those runs back in the bottom of the frame. With the bases loaded, Jace Jung hit his second double of the game to bring home two more. Corey Joyce later hit a two-run single to make it 13-3.

A contingent of five Erie relievers combined to finish the game after Wolf tossed three frames to start the game.

RJ Petit allowed a solo home run to Eli Wilson in the seventh inning. Connor Holden allowed Cheng’s second home run in the ninth to make it 13-5.

Layne Henderson (3-0) was credited with the win. Jake Higginbotham and Tim Naughton also had scoreless relief. Shortridge (10-8) took the loss.

Erie won the series by winning four times. Erie took 14 of 24 from Altoona this season.

Erie begins a road series against Somerset on Tuesday at 6:35 p.m.
