The Toledo Mud Hens wrapped up this week’s series against the Iowa Cubs with a 5-4 win on Sunday night.

Keider Montero started for the Mud Hens and picked up his third win in just five games for Toledo this year. Tonight, he pitched 5.0 innings and gave up three runs on six hits, with two walks and six strikeouts. The bullpen was similarly sharp behind him. Sam Clay, Mason Englert, and Braden Bristo each pitched 1.0 inning and each picked up a hold, while Aneurys Zabala earned his third save of the year in his scoreless ninth inning.

The Hens bats were hot early on. With two runners on base in the second inning, Nick Solak drove them both home with a triple that nearly left the yard. Justyn-Henry Malloy led off the bottom of the third inning with a solo home run, and Michael Papierski and Donny Sands added some insurance with back-to-back RBI doubles later in the inning.

Justyn-Henry Malloy’s home run was his 23rd of the year. He has hit a home run in each of the past four games dating back to Thursday. Tonight was also his fourth straight multi-hit game. He drew his 100th walk of the season tonight, a mark that leads the International League.

The Hens would not score again after the third inning, but the five runs they scored in the first three innings was enough to hold on to the victory. Having taken four out of six this week against Iowa, this week marks their fifth straight series win. They’ve also moved ahead of Iowa in the second half IL West standings for second place.

The Mud Hens will head to Indianapolis on Tuesday for a six-game series against the Indians. The first pitch for Tuesday night’s game in Indy is scheduled for 6:35 P.M.
