Toledo Mud Hens vs. Worcester Red Sox (postponed)

They’ll play two tomorrow in Toledo after getting rained out on Tuesday night. The Hens will have the pitching matchup advantages with both Matt Manning and Keider Montero starting.

Harrisburg Senators 4, Erie SeaWolves 3 (box)

Lael Lockhart produced another excellent start on Tuesday, but the bullpen blew up a bit and the offense was pretty bad considering they had eight walks to work with on the night.

Lockhart struck out seven with one walk on the night, allowing just an unearned run on two hits. A fifth inning leadoff walk bit Lockhart when a Brady Allen error moved House to third where he scored on a sacrifice fly. There was little hard contact overall.

Unfortunately, Calvin Coker allowed three runs in the sixth inning to put the SeaWolves down 4-0.

Despite an absolute parade of baserunners, the SeaWolves failed to capitalize on a very frustrating night at the plate. Finally in the eighth, a one out walk to Chris Meyers got them started. Jake Holton singled and Brady Allen doubled to score Meyers. A Stephen Scott ground out scored Holton, and an Eliezer Alfonzo single plated Allen to make it 4-3.

They got a one out walk to Hao-Yu Lee in the bottom of the ninth, but three strikeouts for the Senators’ Nash Walters earned him the save.

Alfonzo: 2-4, RBI

Allen: 1-4, R, RBI, 2B, K

Lockhart (L, 1-2): 5.0 IP, R, 0 ER, 2 H, BB, 7 K

Coming Up Next: It’s a 1:05 p.m. ET start set for Wednesday afternoon.

West Michigan Whitecaps 6 Lake County Captains 2 (box)

The Whitecaps got a strong start again from Garrett Burhenn and the offense came through with key hits to take down Lake County out in Comstock Park.

Burhenn allowed just an unearned run in the second inning, striking out seven over four innings of work. Matt Merrill and Erick Pinales nailed down the fifth and sixth innings, and by then the Whitecaps had pulled away from Lake County.

Errors on Luke Gold and Andrew Jenkins led to the Captains first run in the second inning, but the Whitecaps came right back in the bottom half. Roberto Campos and Danny Serretti started the inning with singles. A pair of pop-outs followed but Josh Crouch and then Austin Murr walked to force in a run.

In the third, Gold was hit by a pitch with one out and Campos singled again. An error on Orchard Lake/St. Mary’s own Alex Mooney allowed them each to advance 90 feet and Serretti walked to load the bases. Izaac Pacheco struck out, but a wild pitch brought Gold home before the inning ended 2-1 Whitecaps.

Burhenn got into some trouble with a pair of singles allowed in the top of the fourth, but punched out Jake Fox to escape without a run scoring.

Josh Crouch led off the bottom half with his second long ball of the young season. Good to see Crouch doing a little damage again after a rough year at the plate in 2023.

In the sixth, Crouch led off with a walk and took third on a Max Anderson single. Jenkins singled Crouch home, but Gold lined out to shortstop. Fortunately Campos was there again with a line drive single to left that scored Anderson to make it 5-1 Whitecaps.

Connor Holden allowed a run in the top of the seventh to make it 5-2, but in the bottom of the eighth, the Whitecaps put this one away for good.

Anderson reached on an error to lead off and Jenkins singled him to second. A wild pitch moved them both up a base, and a Campos ground out scored Anderson to make it 6-2.

Marco Jimenez took over to slam the door and had no issues.

Campos: 3-5, R, 2 RBI

Jenkins: 3-4, RBI, BB, K

Crouch: 1-1, R, RBI, HR, 3 BB

Burhenn: 4.0 IP, R, 0 ER, 6 H, BB, 7 K

Coming Up Next: It’s a 12:05 p.m. ET start on Wednesday with RHP Jaden Hamm on the mound for the Whitecaps.

Lakeland Flying Tigers 2, Tampa Tarpons 1 (box)

Joe Miller gave the Flying Tigers a really good start and Kevin McGonigle made an impact in his return from a spring hamstring injury as they took down Tampa alongside their major league brethren on Tuesday night. We were just discussing a possible McGonigle timetable on the podcast last night, so it was a pleasant surprise to see him back in the lineup for the first time this season.

The Flying Tigers hit a few balls hard early on, starting with a 102.7 mph lineout by McGonigle that opened the game. Max Clark followed him with a single, but Clayton Campbell struck out and Josue Briceño flew out to left field to end the inning.

Clark then had the first play of the game for the Flying Tigers as George Lombard Jr., son of the Tigers bench coach, smoked a line drive out to him to lead off the bottom of the first.

Jim Jarvis led off the third with a single, and advanced on an errant pickoff throw. McGonigle smacked a ground ball single the opposite way to score him. 1-0 Lakeland. Clark struck out, but McGonigle stole second and took third on a Campbell ground ball to third that went for an error. Alas, again Briceño flew out to end the inning.

Miller allowed just one run in five innings of work, racking up six strikeouts without a walk allowed. His outing ended when Briceño threw a ball into center field trying to cut down Lombard Jr. stealing, and Max Clark gunned him down at third instead.

Apparently Clark made another pretty nice diving catch in this one, but we heard about, rather than saw, that one as well.

In the seventh, Brett Callahan led off the inning with his second home run of the year, and that would be all they needed. Jose De La Cruz pinch-hit for McGonigle later in the inning, so we’ll see if he was feeling anything residual to the hamstring or not tomorrow.

After some rough rehab outings, the Tigers let Garrett Hill follow the starter in this one and things went much better as he spun two scoreless frames with a hit and a walk allowed against two strikeouts.

Donye Evans allowed a walk in the bottom of the ninth, but slammed the door for his second save.

Clark: 1-3, BB, K

McGonigle: 1-3, RBI, SB

Callahan: 1-4, R, RBI, HR, 3 K

Miller: 5.0 IP, ER, 6 H, 0 BB, 6 K

Coming Up Next: The Flying Tigers and the Tarpons will get back at it at 6:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday night.
