Friday Open Thread: What would your weirdo superstition be?

Bless You Boys

Baseball players are a little strange. That’s probably true of a lot of professional athletes, but baseball players are notorious for their propensity toward superstition. Whether it’s baseball-wide superstitions like not stepping on the baseline, not talking about a no-hitter (or not even speaking to the pitcher while one is being thrown), but there are plenty of unusual individual player superstitions as well.

Jason Giambi would wear a gold thong whenever he was in a slump. Mark Teixeira once mixed up one of his socks with CC Sabathia’s and wore a 25 and 52 and thought it gave him good luck. Even former Tigers’ manager Jim Leyland refused to change his boxers during a 2011 winning streak. One of the most famous was obviously that of Wade Boggs, who insisted on eating fried chicken before every game and became lovingly known as Chicken Man as a result.

So for our Friday Open Thread this week, we want to know: what would your weird baseball superstition be if you were in the majors?
