Tigers baseball, softball camps return for ’21

DETROIT — The summer baseball season is quickly approaching, and the Tigers are inviting kids in Metro Detroit and across the state of Michigan to get on the diamond and into the game with Detroit Tigers Summer Baseball and Softball Camps, running from late June through August at locations across the region.

The camps, now in their third year of operations, are open to boys and girls ages 6-14 at all skill levels, and are set up with health and safety as a priority to adhere to local and state guidelines as well as MLB COVID-19 protocols.

“The Detroit Tigers are committed to inspiring the next generation of baseball and softball players and Tigers fans,” said Kevin Brown, director of community impact for the Detroit Tigers and Detroit Red Wings. “Under the direction of highly respected instructors, we’re excited to once again bring pro-level training and lifelong memories to hundreds of children across metro Detroit through the Tigers Youth Baseball and Softball Camps program.”

Each one-week camp provides kids with 30 hours of instruction over five weekday sessions, running Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. ET. Camps are run by executive director and veteran youth baseball camp director Tim Rappé. All camp instructors are SafeSport trained as required by MLB.

“We can’t wait to get back on the field for our third camp season. Helping kids get better at baseball and softball while creating an unforgettable Tigers experience for them is what we’re all about,” Rappé said. “We have a passionate staff, an innovative curriculum and a great lineup of sites all aimed at making the summer of 2021 a special time for campers on and off the field.”

Participants receive an official Tigers uniform — including jersey, pants, cap and belt — along with a graduation certification and four tickets to a future Tigers game at Comerica Park.

The Tigers are offering nine camps across the area:

June 18-July 2: Detroit Country Day School, Beverly Hills

July 12-16: Dearborn High School

July 19-23: MacDonald Middle School, East Lansing

July 19-23: Notre Dame Preparatory School, Pontiac

Registration fee for each camp is $395. Proceeds benefit the Detroit Tigers Foundation and its mission of enhancing lives through the games of baseball and softball with a focus on youth, education and recreation.
