Tigers place Boyd, Lange on 10-day IL, DFA Burrows

Bless You Boys

After both Matthew Boyd and Alex Lange left Monday’s game against the Kansas City Royals early due to injury, the Detroit Tigers placed both pitchers on the 10-day injured list. The moves were part of the longest list of transactions we’ve seen from the Tigers in a while, as the club looks to simply field a healthy pitching staff for the remainder of their series in Kansas City.

Replacing Boyd and Lange on the active roster are lefthander Miguel del Pozo and righthander Wily Peralta, both up from Triple-A Toledo. Additionally, Jeimer Candelario is returning from a short stint on the COVID-19 injured list, which he moved to after being placed on the bereavement list last week. Candelario will be taking the place of Beau Burrows, who was designated for assignment. The 24-year-old former first round pick was knocked around for four runs in 1 23 innings against the Chicago White Sox over the weekend. In 8 13 career MLB frames, he has allowed eight runs on 10 hits.

To make room for del Pozo and Peralta on the 40-man roster, the Tigers shifted Rony Garcia to the 60-day injured list and designated catcher Wilson Ramos for assignment. Ramos started the season on a tear, with six home runs in the club’s first nine games. He has not hit one since, however, and has managed a .414 OPS in 26 games while enduring two separate stints on the injured list. Garcia was placed on the 10-day injured list last week, but will likely need surgery to address his injured knee.

There is still no word on how severe Boyd’s or Lange’s respective injuries are. Though it originally appeared to be his knee, Boyd was placed on the injured list with “left arm discomfort,” a rather ominous diagnosis, while Lange is dealing with a shoulder strain.
