DETROIT — The Tigers slugged out of their doldrums Wednesday with three home runs, including Miguel Cabrera‘s 502nd career homer, to stay close with the A’s. But they finally pulled ahead with their more familiar brand of small-ball offense. That included Cabrera, too.
Three innings after Cabrera’s 423-foot drive into the left-field seats brought fans to their feet at Comerica Park, he did the same with a seventh-inning single into shallow center field, sending Akil Baddoo home with the go-ahead run in an 8-6 win over Oakland.
Cabrera’s 2,963rd career hit pushed him two ahead of Hall of Famer and longtime Tiger Sam Crawford for 34th in AL/NL history. Crawford played 15 of his 19 Major League seasons in Detroit and holds the AL/NL all-time record with 309 career triples.
