Torkelson exits AFL tilt with apparent injury

Detroit Tigers

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Spencer Torkelson, the Tigers’ No. 1 prospect, left Wednesday’s Arizona Fall League game early with an apparent injury.

After drawing a one-out walk in the fourth inning for Salt River against Surprise, Torkelson was on third base and slid awkwardly back into the bag as the catcher tried to pick him off.

Torkelson was pulled for a pinch runner and had a slight limp as he walked, under his own power, back to the dugout.

The 22-year-old walked to the clubhouse between innings and appeared to be moving a bit better.

Torkelson, the No. 1 overall pick from the 2020 Draft and MLB’s No. 4 prospect, hit .267/.383/.552 with 30 homers and 91 RBIs over 121 games this season and is batting .450 through the early stages of the Fall League.
