Detroit Tigers’ new spring training schedule: 18 games begin March 18 in Lakeland

LAKELAND, Fla. — The Detroit Tigers will play 18 Grapefruit League games this season.

The spring training schedule begins with a March 18 home game against the Philadelphia Phillies at Joker Marchant Stadium in Lakeland, Florida, followed by a trip to Bradenton for a March 19 clash with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Spring training concludes April 5 in Tampa against the New York Yankees.

Before MLB’s lockout, the Tigers were slated for 33 games.

Under the new format, the Tigers will play in a four-team pod with the Phillies (five games), Yankees (five games) and Toronto Blue Jays (four games), while also taking on the Pirates (two games) and Baltimore Orioles (two games).

The TV and radio schedules and game times will be ironed out soon. Single-game tickets go on sale Sunday, the first mandatory report day for all MLB teams.

Opening Day is April 8 at Comerica Park.

March 28: Yankees (Lakeland).

March 30: Phillies (Clearwater).

March 31: Blue Jays (Dunedin).

April 1: Yankees (Lakeland).

April 2: Orioles (Lakeland).

April 3: Phillies (Clearwater).

April 4: Blue Jays (Lakeland).

April 5: Yankees (Tampa).
