Game notes: The good news for the Tigers? They’re 6-2 this season when scoring at least four runs, including Friday night’s white-knuckler to open the series against the Orioles. The bad news, which you may have sussed out with some quick math, is that they’ve been held to three runs or fewer 25 times this season, going 4-21 in those. No other team in the majors has more than 20 games with three or fewer runs.

Maybe the bats will continue their semi-live action against Baltimore lefty Bruce Zimmermann, who’s having a moderate breakout season with 30 strikeouts over 30 1/3 innings for the O’s in his third season. But considering he has allowed more than three runs just once in six starts this season – four runs to the New York Yankees on April 28 – and no Tiger on the roster has faced him previously, it’s an iffy bet.

So no pressure, Michael Pineda! The big righty is coming off his best start of his four-game Tigers tenure, allowing just two runs over 6 2/3 innings Monday against the A’s. Unfortunately for him, that was one of the Tigers’ four shutouts this season – can’t give up less than zero. Pineda has a good history against some of the most veteran O’s, holding Rougned Odor and Robinson Chirinos to a combined 2-for 19 performance. But the heart of the Baltimore offense — Trey Mancini, Cedric Mullens and Anthony Santander — is a combined 8-for-14 against him with a double (Santander), triple (Mullins) and home run (Mancini).

After Saturday’s matinee, the Tigers and O’s wrap up the series with a 1:40 start —Sunday games for the next few months are pushed back by 30 minutes to honor NBC/Peacock’s exclusive window for pre-noon games — before going their separate ways. The Tigers will head to St. Petersburg, Florida, for a three-game set against the perennially tough Tampa Bay Rays, while the Orioles head back to Baltimore to face a slightly more threatening offense from the Yankees.
