Tigers’ Saturday game in Cleveland postponed

CLEVELAND — Saturday’s game between the Tigers and Guardians was postponed due to impending severe weather crossing Ohio.

The teams will make up the game on Thursday, July 14, with a 7:10 p.m. ET game at Progressive Field, essentially tacking it onto their previously scheduled three-game series heading into the All-Star break. Both clubs were scheduled to be off that day.

Fans with tickets for the game can use the same ticket for the makeup game, or they can exchange it for one of 51 other game options by 5 p.m. ET on July 14.

While the makeup leaves the Tigers with a 12-game, 11-day, three-city road trip heading into the All-Star break, it allows manager A.J. Hinch to get his pitching in order in the short term. Alex Faedo, who was scheduled to start Saturday, will start Sunday’s series finale opposite Shane Bieber. Sunday had been a TBD on the Tigers’ pitching schedule, allowing Beau Brieske an extra day off before starting Monday’s series opener at Minnesota.

Elvin Rodriguez, who is on the Tigers’ taxi squad for this trip, had been a candidate to start Sunday. Instead, he could become a candidate for Tuesday, when the Tigers have another TBD in Eduardo Rodriguez’s rotation slot. Rodriguez left his last start, Thursday at Tampa Bay, in the first inning with a left side injury; initial exams showed no major damage, and the Tigers haven’t placed him on the injured list yet.
