Why are the Detroit Tigers called the Tigers?

The Detroit Tigers made their annual Winter Caravan stop Friday at the Frankenmuth Snowfest, answering fans’ questions. One question, about the origin of the Tigers nickname, stumped the players but was answered by Tigers broadcaster Dan Dickerson. The players were paired with area representatives from Boys and Girls Clubs, high school softball and baseball teams and Little League teams for a parade to the event.
