MLB Draft Highlights: Tigers select ASU first baseman Spencer Torkelson at No. 1 overall

Detroit Free Press
Two-time unanimous All-American selection Spencer Torkelson is poised to become an MLB superstar in a hurry. The junior first baseman’s best attributes are his compact swing and quick bat speed which pair for power, as he became just the third player in Pac-12 history with back-to-back 20+ HR seasons. Torkelson is a favorite to be selected in the top three of this year’s draft, with most predicting him to go at first overall to the Detroit Tigers. He would be just the third first baseman selected No. 1 overall (Ron Blomberg 1967, Adrian Gonzalez 2000) and the first right-handed first baseman to go No. 1 in MLB Draft history.
