Miguel Cabrera hits two home runs against Royals

Fansided

No, this isn’t a trip back in time. Miguel Cabrera had a multi-homer game

Miggy’s been a shell of his former self since the 2016 season, his last as an American League All-Star. Much of that has been due to injury issues, including knee, hamstring, tendon and bicep ailments, just to name a few. Cabrera’s lower body no longer has the same power it once possessed, impacting his home run and run producing numbers as a result.

Yet, should Cabrera merely stay healthy for the next few seasons, he’s almost a sure bet to reach 500 home runs and 3,000 hits, two milestones that’ll only aid his surefire Hall of Fame case. It’s two career accomplishments Cabrera no-doubt deserves at this juncture, and something the Tigers marketing team would appreciate to boot.

He took another step closer on Thursday night. Well, technically two steps.

Miguel Cabrera notched his 40th multi-homer game against KC

What’s better than one Miggy home run? How about two Miggy home runs?

Per Jason Beck, Royals rookie Brady Singer became the 331st major league pitcher to give up a home run to Cabrera. That’s an astounding number and one that, despite his advanced age, is only likely to go up in the final years of his albatross of a contract.

The Tigers surprising start to the season has gone relatively unnoticed in AL circles, but despite a loss on Thursday night to Kansas City, Detroit has several young building blocks for the future. The likes of Casey Mize, Tarik Skubal and Spencer Torkelson, among others, offer hope for MoTown baseball when there otherwise was very little.

Next: Tigers drafting Spencer Torkelson would be first true admission of Miguel Cabrera’s obvious decline
