MLB’s first HR of ’21? Miggy … in the snow!

Detroit Tigers

Miguel Cabrera wasted no time providing the first big highlight of the new season on Thursday, crushing a two-run first-inning homer to right field off reigning AL Cy Young Award winner Shane Bieber with snow swirling around him at Comerica Park. The drive gave the Tigers a quick 2-0 lead over Cleveland.

The snow was so heavy for Cabrera’s 488th career homer, his 350th as a Tiger, that he slid into second base, briefly thinking the ball didn’t clear the wall. An umpire review confirmed his shot as the first home run of the Major League season.
