Detroit Tigers’ Wilson Ramos activated from injured list; three catchers now on roster

Detroit Free Press

The Detroit Tigers activated catcher Wilson Ramos from the 10-day injured list on Monday, hours before their game at the Seattle Mariners.

Ramos suffered a lumbar spine strain earlier this month and was place on the injured list on May 7. To make room for Ramos on the 26-man roster, reliever Alex Lange was sent to Triple-A Toledo after Sunday’s loss to the Cubs.

The Tigers now have three catchers on the roster: Ramos, Jake Rogers and Eric Haase, though Haase as outfield experience and is scheduled to start in left on Monday in Seattle.

Rogers was called up to fill-in for Ramos and has hit .250 in four games. Haase is hitting .250 in three games.

Grayson Greiner, who started the season as the Tigers’ backup catcher, has been on the injured list since Wednesday with a left hamstring strain. Haase was called up from Toledo to fill in for Greiner.

Ramos, who signed a one-year, $2 million deal this offseason, is hitting .227 with six home runs and 11 RBIs in 29 games this season.
