‘Caps Drop Fifth Straight

West Michigan Whitecaps

COMSTOCK PARK, MI – The Lansing Lugnuts saw a complete performance carry them to an 8-1 win over the West Michigan Whitecaps in front of a season-high 2,669 fans Wednesday night at LMCU Ballpark.

All but one Lugnuts batter recorded a base hit as Lansing pitchers Brock Whittlesey, Seth Shuman, Charles Hall, and Brandon Withers combined to allow just one run while striking out 10 ‘Caps hitters in the 8-1 victory. It becomes the fifth straight loss for West Michigan – their longest losing skid of the season.

Lansing scored first in the top of the third inning on a two-RBI single by Drew Millas to take a 2-0 advantage. The ‘Caps struck for their only tally on a Trei Cruz RBI-groundout before the Lugnuts tallied six insurance runs through the next three innings to put the finishing touches on the resounding victory and deliver the Whitecaps their fifth-straight loss. Millas pounded a solo home run in the sixth – his first of the season as part of the win.

Shuman (1-1) picked up his first victory on the season as he led the Lugnuts with four punchouts while only allowing one run. Whitecaps starter Keider Montero (2-4) allowed five earned runs on nine hits in his fourth defeat this year. The Lansing Lugnuts improve to 16-16 as the Whitecaps fall to 16-15. After having their eight-game winning streak snapped in Great Lakes, West Michigan has set a new season-high with five straight losses.
