Whitecaps Lose, 2-1

West Michigan Whitecaps

COMSTOCK PARK, MI – Both pitching staffs dominated as the Fort Wayne TinCaps sneaked past the West Michigan Whitecaps 2-1 Wednesday night at LMCU Ballpark.

Fort Wayne starter and knuckleballer Matt Waldron (3-4) was outstanding, going eight scoreless frames while striking out eight in his third win.

Whitecaps starting pitcher Adam Wolf also impressed, hurling five shutout innings with three punchouts as three ‘Caps arms combined to strike out 11 TinCaps hitters in the narrow loss.

West Michigan scored first as Wenceel Perez crossed the plate on a wild pitch to put the ‘Caps out in front 1-0 in the first. Chris Givin delivered a solo home run in the eighth to tie the game at 1-1 before Tirso Ornelas crossed the winning run with an RBI single to put the finishing touches on a 2-1 TinCaps victory.

Waldron collected the longest start of any opposing pitcher this season in his third victory. Whitecaps reliever Zack Hess (0-4) tossed 1.2 innings striking out a pair before allowing the go-ahead run in his fourth loss this year. The TinCaps improve to 28-33 while the Whitecaps fall to 27-33. This game marks the first time the ‘Caps have faced a knuckleballer since the 2016 season.
