Toledo Mud Hens 3, Iowa Cubs 0 (box)
The Hens jumped out to an early lead and the pitching staff did the rest to take the series four games to two. Willi Castro, playing shortstop and leading off, opened the game with a solo shot to right field. Renato Nuñez followed him with a triple and scored on a Yariel Gonzalez groundout. Mark Leiter Jr. took things from there, going five scoreless innings on just two hits and a walk, with six strikeouts. Bryan Garcia took the sixth, while Locke St. John and Miguel Del Pozo wrapped up the final three frames without allowing a run. They got a bit of support when Gonzalez singled to open the bottom of the sixth and rode home on an Aderlin Rodriguez double.

Bowie Baysox 6, Erie SeaWolves 2 (Gm 1)(F/7)(box)
The SeaWolves took on a good pitching prospect in Grayson Rodriguez on Sunday, and couldn’t get much going offensively. Riley Greene singled with one out in the third, and scored on a Spencer Torkelson shot to left that was misplayed into an error. Dillon Dingler mashed a solo shot to right center field in the sixth, but that was it for the offense as they managed just three hits on the day.
Joey Wentz got the start for the SeaWolves and went three innings. He allowed two earned runs, which is pretty good considering the fact that he walked five hitters in that short outing. Command takes longer than stuff to recover and develop after TJ surgery. The stuff appears to be coming back strong as expected, as Wentz did strike out five on the day.
Erie SeaWolves 7, Bowie Baysox 4 (Gm 2)(F/7)(box)
In the second game of Sunday’s doubleheader, Erie rode two-run shots from Ryan Kreidler and Drew Ward to victory. Bowie opened the scoring with one in the first against Chance Kirby, but the SeaWolves came back on a two-run double by Brady Policelli in the second inning. Kerry Carpenter singled home Kreidler in the third to make it 3-1. Kreidler’s fourth inning shot provided the eventual margin of victory. Kirby blew up for a three run inning in the fifth that ended his outing, but Ward’s shot opened a three run lead again in the bottom of the fifth, and Chavez Fernander and Yaya Chentouf finished it up with scoreless innings of relief.

Fort Wayne TinCaps 9, West Michigan Whitecaps 2 (box)
After four scoreless innings, starter Brendan White melted down for six runs in the fifth inning and the Whitecaps offense did little to pick him up in this one. A two-run double from Jimmy Kerr in the bottom of the fifth was there only scoring of the day.

Tampa Tarpons 5, Lakeland Flying Tigers 4 (box)
The Flying Tigers erased an early deficit in the middle innings, only to watch their bullpen leak late runs to put a comeback out of reach. Ricky Davila started the game, and while he surrendered a run in each of the first two innings—only one earned—he was solid, throwing five innings with only five hits, no walks, and four strikeouts. Nick Quintana’s fourth homer of the year came in the fourth with Colt Keith aboard, and temporarily tied things up. Isrrael de la Cruz allowed a run in the sixth, while Gabriel Sequeira allowed a pair in the seventh, giving the Tarpons a three run lead.
The Flying Tigers made a good run at them in the eighth. Jose King led off with a single, and was followed by a Keith single before a double steal put them on second and third for Quintana. He lined one up the middle to score King and move Keith to the third, and Keith scored on a Jake Holton sac fly. Alvaro Gonzalez flew out, and Quintana then got backpicked at first to end the threat.
