For the first time in the series, Altoona struck first. Mason Martin smacked his 20th home run of the season, a solo shot, to right-center field in the second inning for a brief lead, but it would turn to become Altoona’s only run. Jesus Rodriguez (2-2) would only allow the one hit while striking out a season-high eight and tying a season-high six innings in the win. Erie got scoreless outings from Yaya Chentouf and Ruben Garcia out of the bullpen to finish the night.
After going down scoreless in the first two innings, Erie hammered Altoona’s Osvaldo Bido (2-5) in the third inning. After and error and a walk set up the frame, Riley Greene shot a three-run home run off of the left field wall, his fourth consecutive game with a home run. Greene is the first SeaWolves player to homer in four straight games since 2017.
Not to be outdone, Kerry Carpenter added his own three-run home run in the third inning, and Danny Woodrow finished the frame with a two-RBI double. Erie plated three more runs in the fourth inning with an RBI single from Drew Ward, and a two-RBI double by Brady Policelli. Carpenter later tied a career-high with his fourth RBI in the fifth inning when he singled to drive in Ryan Kreidler. Andre Lipcius capped the scoring for the SeaWolves with a single that plated a pair of runs.
Erie and Altoona conclude the six-game series on Sunday. The first 1,000 kids age 12 and younger receive a SeaWolves water bottle, presented by Erie Catholic School System. First pitch is scheduled for 1:35 p.m.
