LAKELAND, Fla. — Dan Hasty already had a job talking about Tigers prospects as the radio voice of the West Michigan Whitecaps before he took on a podcast dedicated to Detroit’s farm system as a labor of love. Now, as the system yields results at the top level, the Road to Detroit Podcast is getting some well-deserved recognition, too.
The Michigan Association of Broadcasters this week honored the Road to Detroit Podcast with a pair of Broadcast Excellence Awards for two episodes during the 2021 season. Hasty, as host, and producer Nathan Wangler swept the Best Sports Feature category with two winning episodes.
The Father’s Day episode featuring Tigers prospect Kody Clemens and his dad, seven-time Cy Young Award winner Roger Clemens, was honored as the best sports podcast feature of the year. Another episode featuring Tigers director of performance science Dr. Georgia Giblin received a merit honor (the equivalent of runner-up) in the same category.
It’s the second time Hasty has been part of a Broadcast Excellence Award from the Michigan Association of Broadcasters. He was honored for his play-by-play work with the Whitecaps in 2016. He also was named Midwest League Broadcaster of the Year in ’17.
The Road to Detroit Podcast tracks prospects and teams in the Tigers’ farm system every week during the Minor League season, including interviews ranging from top prospects to organizational officials. Hasty and Wangler talked with Casey Mize, Tarik Skubal and Matt Manning on their way up the system in 2019 before they arrived in Detroit. They had multiple interviews with Spencer Torkelson and Riley Greene last year.
The podcast is available for free on Apple Podcasts, Audacy, Spotify and other popular podcast platforms. You can also find episodes at tigers.com on the Tigers Podcasts page under the video pull-down menu.
