Game notes: The Tigers will try to recover from a deflating loss to the Red Sox — the Tigers ran ahead 3-0 then didn’t score over the following six innings as Boston pushed across the game’s final five runs. Tyler Alexander was great to begin but couldn’t escape the sixth and was saddled with three earned runs in that inning.

Rodriguez takes the mound for the 154th start in his career but the first against the Red Sox, with whom he spent seven seasons. In his Tigers debut Friday, he allowed three runs in four innings against the mighty White Sox offense (though it was missing star leadoff man Tim Anderson). Offensively, the Tigers have hit a bit of a slump, failing to score more than three runs since the season opener.

Eovaldi faces the Tigers for the fifth time in his career. He’s 2-0 with a 3.86 ERA with 18 strikeouts in 23⅓ innings vs. Detroit. Eovaldi has never given up a homer to the Tigers. Rafael Devers has five hits in two games this series.

Next up for Boston is a home set vs. Minnesota while Detroit heads to Kansas City for four games.
