Spencer Torkelson went boom.

Just more than 24 hours after recording the first hit of his career, Torkelson — the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 MLB Draft by the Detroit Tigers — hit the first home run of his career.

Down 9-2 in the seventh inning of Wednesday’s series finale vs. the Boston Red Sox, Torkelson stepped to the plate.

After taking the first pitch for a ball, Torkelson turned around a 94 mph fastball from lefty Austin Davis, sending it deep into the seats in left field for a two-run blast.

It was the first home run and first two RBIs of the 22-year-old’s career, launched 105.7 mph off the bat, traveling 396 feet.

Torkelson was 1-for-15 in his major league career before the home run, but after Tuesday’s game said that he expected to settle in soon.

“It feels good to get out of the way,” Torkelson said of his first hit. “And it’s just, it’s funny how baseball works and that I felt even more relaxed in those next at-bats after it… like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders.”
