Miguel Cabrera, one hit away from 3,000: ‘I think I might cry’ ]

Game notes: The Tigers and Rockies will play two games after Friday’s series opener was postponed due to rain. Miguel Cabrera will likely get the start and another shot at his 3,000th hit Saturday; he has no at-bats vs. Sanzatela in his career, with walks in each of his two plate appearances against him in 2017.

Sanzatela’s contact-heavy approach beat the Chicago Cubs last time out, allowing one run and striking out two over five innings. It will be interesting to see how the Tigers attack the finesse righty; Sanzatela doesn’t walk many (one in 8⅓ innings this season) and Detroit has the 10th-most walks in the league.

The second game of the day will feature Brieske’s first MLB action. He has two starts in the minors this season, allowing five runs in 10 innings. With nine strikeouts and three walks, it’s clear Brieske has good stuff. But how will major-league hitters welcome him to the league? Gomber has yet to clear the fifth inning, giving up at least three runs in each of his first two starts. As a member of the St. Louis Cardinals bullpen, Gomber threw three scoreless innings vs. the Tigers in 2020 (in another doubleheader, oddly enough, albeit one of the seven-inning variety).

The Rockies and Tigers finish the series with a 1:10 p.m. start on Sunday.
